We have been advised by Brisbane City Council that they have budgeted for a project to undertake renovations at the Guild’s Red Hill headquarters in 2022. These will begin in May and are anticipated to be finished late July / early August. Council’s plan is to raise the building and waterproof the downstairs area with adequate drainage making downstairs height compliant and not prone to flooding. The renovations will double our work areas and classroom space. Approval has been given for a shed at the rear where seldom used equipment, garden tools and exhibition materials can be stored.
We are working in partnership with Council engineers and construction contractors, and, if necessary, will contribute a share of the funding to ensure the best outcomes for the Guild within our budget constraints. Meetings have occurred, quotes have been obtained from Council’s preferred suppliers, the shipping container has arrived, downstairs equipment moved out and the project is poised to begin. The guild will be closed from May 22. Members will be kept informed of progress via email.
We are excited, but also keen for the work to be finished, so we
can again share our love of glass art with prospective students and members.
