Who we are

The Creative Glass Guild of Queensland is a “not for profit” organisation which was formed to encourage the sharing of knowledge and improvement of skills of those who enjoy working with glass in a creative way.  The Guild is run on a membership basis, and whilst most of our members are hobbyists, we have several members who are professional glass artists.

The Guild aims to generally stimulate interest in, and increase the awareness of glass as a creative medium.  We do this through our highly regarded annual exhibition of member’s work which is held in July, and by running classes and workshops in glass arts which are open to everyone.

The Guild meets on the first Monday of every month at 64 Fulcher Road, Red Hill (next door to the Broncos Football Club) at 7:30pm.  All are welcome.

How we started

In August 1979, the Arts Council set up the first leadlighting workshop in Queensland.  Several of the students decided to form a group and advertised for people interested in forming an art glass group. Sixty-six people responded, of which twenty-two had some experience with glass - and so the Guild was formed.

From its beginnings at the Kelvin Grove, the Guild moved to Mt Gravatt Teachers' College and remained there until 1980, when it moved to New Farm.  The next home for the Guild was Ashgrove in 1982 and we have been in our current location in Red Hill since 1994.

Benefits of membership

As the Guild is a not-for-profit organisation we can offer materials and tools for sale at below retail cost, with substantial discounts for members. The Guild stocks a wide range of art glass, tools, lead, chemicals, books, and other materials.

The Guild has specialised equipment such as kilns and sandblasting equipment which members can use for a nominal fee.  We also have a substantial library of  leadlighting, fusing, mosaic and other glass and related books and resources which the members are able to borrow free of charge.

Our “headquarters” in Red Hill provides a place for members to meet and share their knowledge and resources and to learn new skills or improve old ones.

The Guild newsletter is published bi-monthly and provides news and reviews on glass related events, hints and tips and articles on member, s projects.  Whilst it usually goes to members electronically, the newsletter can be posted if preferred.

The Guild is open every Saturday morning between 9:00am and 12:00pm for use of the facilities and purchases of materials at special member’s prices.
