CREATIVE GLASS GUILD - CLASS TIMETABLE

July to December 2010

BEGINNERS LEADLIGHTING & INTRO TO COPPER FOILING

1.    19th August to 14th October                   Thursday evenings 6:30 to 9:30 pm for 9 weeks

2.   21st October to 16th December               Thursday evenings 6:30 to 9:30 pm for 9 weeks

No experience necessary.  There are 3 designs to choose from.  Each of these designs will teach you all the necessary skills and techniques you will need to go onto more advanced projects. On Week 9, we will concentrate on the technique of copper foiling.

Cost: $300, includes all materials except glass cutter (see note **)

 

 

FUSING & SLUMPING

 

Class filled. 

Another one will be scheduled later in the year.

Dates to be advised.

No experience necessary, although the ability to cut glass is an advantage for this class.  Friday evening introduction, basic theory and design selection:  first Saturday, float glass project and more technical information;  second Saturday, a coloured Spectrum glass project;  third Saturday, making mould and setting project into kiln for slumping.

Cost:   $320 includes all materials for two class projects. (Except glass/mosaic cutter (see note **).

 

 

FUSING (JEWELLERY)

1.   28th and 29th of August                       Saturday and Sunday - 9am to 4pm both days

Prerequisite:   Fusing and Slumping Workshop.

Cost:  $280 .Includes materials for all class projects. (Except glass/mosaic cutter (see note **).

Extra materials can be purchased separately, if required. Silver settings will also be available for purchase if desired.

 


 

BEGINNERS MOSAICS

1.   27th October to 15th December            Wednesday Evenings  6.30pm to 9.30pm for 8 weeks

No experience necessary.  Create your mosaic on a stepping stone or a terracotta platter or a piece of plywood.  The tutor will provide examples of suitable projects at the level that would be appropriate for this course.  Students are welcome to select other designs of their own choice for the teacher to assess for suitabilityThe class covers all the necessary skills and techniques you will need to go onto more advanced mosaic projects.

 

Cost:  $240 includes all materials for class project except glass/mosaic cutter (see note **)

 

 

INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOPS  (Not beginners level)

(Maximum 8 students)  Book early as places fill fast.

 

These classes are for those who have already done beginners level projects and want to continue in a class environment with a tutor available to help.  Materials are NOT included in the cost and will need to be purchased separately.  The fee only covers workshop time and having a tutor (or two) available.  Your project is of your own choosing and you can work at your own pace.

 

 

Monday Evenings: (2 blocks of 6 weeks available)

1.        9th August to 20th September                    Monday Evenings - 6.30 to 9.30pm for 6 weeks

          (Note:  No classes on Monday 6th September )

2.        27th September to 15th November             Monday Evenings - 6.30 to 9.30pm for 6 weeks

          (Note:  No classes on Monday 4th October or 1st of November)

 

Tuesday Evenings:  (2 blocks available)

1.       24th August to 28th September                Tuesday Evenings - 6.30 to 9.30pm for 6 weeks

 

2.       5th October to 9th November                   Tuesday Evenings - 6.30 to 9.30pm for 6 weeks

Cost: $80 per block of 6 consecutive classes.
 

 

 

INTERMEDIATE MOSAICS WORKSHOPS

(Not beginners level . Completion of the Beginners Mosaic class or equivalent is essential.)

(Maximum 8 students)

 

These classes are for those who have already done beginners MOSAIC level projects and want to continue in a class environment with a tutor available to help.  Materials are NOT included in the cost and will need to be purchased separately.  The fee only covers workshop time and having a tutor available.  Your project is of your own choosing and you can work at your own pace.

1.  30th October, 13th and 27th November.       Saturdays   9:30am to 4:30 pm

Cost: $80 per block (Equivalent to 6 regular sessions.)

 

BEADMAKING
1.   18th and 19th of September  Saturday and Sunday - 9am to 4pm both days supplied

No experience necessary. Learn how to make glass beads by melting compatible glass around a steel mandrel using a gas flame.  A winter sport only!
Cost: $240 for the weekend.  All materials .
 

FIRST LAMPSHADE 

Cost: $250

1.   13th,  20th and 27th of August; 3rd, 10th and 17th of September and 1st and 8th of October
(Note: No class on 24th of September.)
Friday evenings 6:30 to 9:30 pm for 8 weeks.


Beginners leadlight or equivalent demonstrated proficiency in accurate glass cutting is a prerequisite of the First Lampshade Class.  Three lamp designs to choose from.  Cost includes some materials (foil, solder, lamp cap, flux, patina to the value of approx $50).  Glass and lamp fixtures are not included as they will vary depending on each student’s requirements.  Glass for a typical lamp would cost between $60 and $90. (See note **)
 

 

LEADLIGHT AND COPPER FOIL REPAIR CLASS

Cost: $130

1.   11th and 12th of September        9am to 4pm both days.

Repair expert, Barry Richters, will demonstrate repairing a curve fronted leadlight cabinet.  He will also have samples of copper foil with broken pieces for each student to practice repairing.  Feel free to bring any broken leadlight or copper foil pieces you have for advice.  Time permitting, he will help you fix them.

 

INTRODUCTION TO TRADITIONAL STAINED GLASS*
 *Note Change to dates and class format!
 
Cost:  $250   (Fee covers workshop time, firings during the course and tuition.  One jar of oxide and clove oil will be provided.  All other materials are to be purchased separately)
 
Maximum of 6 Students
 
•18th August to 20th October                Wednesday Evenings 6:30 to 9:30. (10 weeks)
 
Prerequisite:   Beginners Leadlight

 

The techniques of traditional Stained glass will be taught, with students painting several different sample pieces using many different methods.  (These could be ultimately made into a leadlight collage if you wish to do so.)  The teacher will have several small set projects that will allow you to practise and develop skills in many different styles.  This class has been designed to cater for those wanting to use stained glass techniques in both traditional and non traditional styles and applications.  Techniques that we will sample include, but are not limited to, line work, matting and shading, sgraffito, sandblasting and basic silver staining.  There will also be some discussion about the design considerations that are vital when planning a stained glass window.

 

OTHER COURSES OFFERED:

SANDBLASTING

Our sandblasting equipment is in the process of being upgraded, so there are no classes booked for this term.  Our next class will be published in term 1, 2011.

DEPOSIT:  A 50% deposit will be required to hold a place for you.  This is fully refundable should the class not go ahead due to lack of numbers.

                                                                                                                     

** NOTE:  For all classes, with the exception of Bead making and Sand blasting, you will need to purchase/ bring a suitable glass cutter (approx $50 - $80, depending on type of cutter chosen).  The Guild has these available for purchase during the classes or on Saturdays 9am to 12noon when our shop is open.
