History of the Guild, Aims and MembershipHistory of the Creative Glass Guild:The first leadlighting workshop in Queensland was set up by the Arts Council and was first held at the Kelvin Grove Teachers' College. The tutor for this course was Father Homer-Howorth. Leadlighting materials were not readily available in Brisbane, so George Wolf (a student in this course), suggested that the students pool their resources and bring one large order from Sydney for the class. This was in August 1979. Several of the students from this course decided to form a group, and advertised a meeting for people interested in forming an art glass group. Sixty-six people turned up of which twenty-two had some experience with glass. Thus the Guild was formed. The Guild then moved to Mt Gravatt Teachers' College and was located there until the move to James Street, New Farm mid 1980. The next home for the Guild was at Ashgrove in 1982. The Guild has been in its current location at 64 Fulcher Road, Red Hill since 1994. The Aims of the Guild are:
The Guild meets on the first Monday of every month at 64 Fulcher Road, Red Hill (next door to the Broncos Football Club) at 7:30pm. All are welcome. |
